» CHARACTER INFORMATIONCharacter NAME: Heath Burns
Canon & MEDIUM: Monster High. Multiple mediums but mostly Webisodes.
Canon PULL-POINT: Volume 3 Episode 47 "Party Undead" [
http://monsterhigh.wikia.com/wiki/Party_Undead]
Character AGE: 15
Character ABILITIES: Heath is a fire elemental [
http://monsterhigh.wikia.com/wiki/Elementals], a nature spirit; fire given form. He can create fire whenever he so needs to, particularly from his hair. He can throw fireballs like any other kid could throw a baseball. His species' abilities are linked to their emotions, and so control of them requires emotional control as well. Given Heath is a teenage boy, he's understandably still trying to get a grip on them, without much luck. Whenever his emotional state moves up from a calm ambivalent, his hair sometimes burst into flames in reaction to the emotional change, setting fire to any unfortunates standing near him at the time.
He can't use his powers while he's wet, and a side effect of being a flame elemental is a condition very similar to ADHD. He gets distracted easily, is recklessly impulsive and has real trouble concentrating on anything for an extended length of time.
He seems very hardy, compared to most monsters. He's able to withstand pretty brutal treatment, including being frozen alive and turned to stone alive
on multiple occasions. That's not to say he's impervious to pain. He's very clumsy and his diary points out he has a plaque above a chair in the local hospital, reserving it for him. So he can get hurt, he just bounces back more quickly than most. If this is part of his elemental nature or if he's just plain lucky is never explained.
Thanks to his extracurricular activities, Heath is a very fast runner and a very talented extreme skater.
Character HISTORY: Good luck figuring out the continuity of this show. It's core are webisodes [
http://monsterhigh.wikia.com/wiki/Monster_High_(cartoon)] but it's also added to with the feature-length tv specials [
http://monsterhigh.wikia.com/wiki/TV_special] and the diaries that come with the dolls [
http://monsterhigh.wikia.com/wiki/Doll_diaries]. Exactly WHERE these events fit into the webisode main canon is a little tricky, but at his current canonpoint, he's experienced all of them but 13 Wishes.
Heath is a fire elemental, like both of his parents. He's also related (either by blood or marriage) to the Jekyll/Hyde descendants, his cousin(s) Jackson/Holt being inflicted with the dual personality problem. Heath lives in New Salem, Massachusetts [
http://monsterhigh.wikia.com/wiki/New_Salem], a place where the human (or "normie") society and the supernatural (or "monster") society live in segregation. Monsters themselves generally do not willingly spend time together, living in their own separate areas and sending their children to species-exclusive schools.
Heath is enrolled in Monster High [
http://monsterhigh.wikia.com/wiki/Monster_High_(location) ] the first and so far only integrated school, allowing all monsters (and even normies) through its doors. As a result, the students within the school have learned valuable lessons of tolerance and acceptance that their elders have not. The teenagers of monster high live fairly regular lives, going to class, clubs, spending time outside of school together, and so on.
Heath was around to watch his school attempt to merge with a vampire school and a werewolf school, and the resulting fallout of an old monster hunter who attempted to prove monsters could not live in an integrated society, for fear that if they joined forces, they'd be a threat to humanity. He was also witness to a Halloween prank gone wrong, resulting in the near public execution of his cousin for a crime he didn't commit. There was also that one human guy who showed up and tried to set a rage monster lose on them all. Needless to say, Heath is a little wary of humanity, as much as his school promotes tolerance, humanity seems largely uninterested in following suit. He's also travelled with the girls to far off places, helping Clawdeen escape from a fashionita prison (yeah really) and chasing after a sentient book across the world. After they proved themselves, Heath was even willing to allow girls into the Skulltimate Rollermaze team, an extreme sport that had been exclusively for boys for a long time. Heath comes into Exsilium after an invasion of other dimensional creatures, who turned out to be a lot less evil than he anticipated. Them's the breaks.
Character PERSONALITY: "This Heath, he is hailstone that thinks it is iceberg"
On first impression, Heath comes across as conceited, arrogant, rude and a horrific flirt. Once you get to know him better, you realise all these things are true, and that he's not ashamed of it. He loves being the centre of attention, and does all he can to ensure he remains as such. Heath is desperate to fit in, to be noticed and adored by everyone. His behaviour can vary largely with the company he keeps. He's more inclined to be a complete jackass when he's spending time with school bully Manny, than he is with his much more level headed best friend, Deuce.
Thanks to his fire elemental nature, Heath is very easily distracted, flitting from one thing to another, and spending very little time concentrating on one thing. This also makes him impulsive, prone to touching things he shouldn't and doing reckless things to keep himself active. Sitting still and quietly for any length of time is not a feasible thing to ask of him. This often gets him into trouble, bringing all sorts of chaos into the classroom when he gets bored. He's part of the track team and Skultimate Roller Maze (a very extreme roller skating sport- like a roller derby with more chance of a horrific death) where his boundless energy comes in handy.
His most obvious trait is that he's a flirt. He'll happily hit on any lady who happens to take his fancy that day, spouting cheesy pick up lines and generally badgering her in the hopes that she'll be flattered by his advances. The fact he's one of the more good looking monsters in the school has just added to his belief that he's the school stud. He does have an ability to be charming, but often blows any luck he has with the ladies with his arrogance or tendency to speak before thinking. He seems to genuinely care for Abbey, a yeti exchange student, and has even managed to act vaguely normal around her, even dropping his horrible tendency towards pet names. Even with this development, however, he still remains a terrible flirt by nature.
Heath rarely thinks before he speaks, which often results in him saying something hurtful or insulting. He sees it all as a big joke, and is confused when people take his jerkish words to heart. He rarely apologies for his actions, though. If people can't take a joke, it's their problem. He's also extremely clumsy, often tripping over thin air.
Despite all of this, Heath is not without his good qualities. He willingly spends time with his "normie" cousin, despite the fact Jackson is an unwelcome addition to the monster community and that Heath himself doesn't trust humans all that much; Jackson it seems, is an exception to the rule. He's willing to help the girls out when they really need him, often without expecting anything in return, up to and including crossdressing for them. He was also willing to fight off what he thought were deadly monsters in order to prevent them from hurting his friends.
He's not one for planning ahead, or worrying about the future. When his friend Frankie was panicking about her lack of plans for the upcoming new year, he pointed out that it's much better to
not have plans, to just go with the flow of whatever life throws at you. As far as he's concerned, it's more exciting that way.
Though he may be an unpredictable, arrogant Casanova, Heath remains a loyal friend, and someone who is more than happy to strike up a conversation with anyone who has the energy to keep up with him.
» EXSILIUM INFORMATIONChosen WEAPON: Roller Skates!
His skates will develop with the longer he can focus on something. The more minutes he's able to devote his attention to one single thing, the more functions the skates will have. Starting with small rockets for speed, these rockets growing and eventually allowing him to use them to hover and fly.
He'll probably fly face first into a wall a few times, because good lord is this child clumsy. I have a summary of how they will level up here: [
http://hotdate.dreamwidth.org/2779.html]
Character INVENTORY: * Clothes: Sneakers, jeans, t-shirt and jacket
* His iCoffin [
http://monsterhigh.wikia.com/wiki/ICoffin]
* His games console which looks like a PSP but probably has some horrible punny monster name.
» SAMPLESFirst PERSON: [
Heath turns on the video feed on the tablet, flashing everyone his most charming grin]
Sup, Exsiliumites. Is that the name you use for yourselves? If it isn't, you should totally change it. It makes this whole being kidnapped thing sound way cooler than it is.
ANYway, I've got a question. What's with the complete lack of parties? Back home the ghouls would use any excuse to throw one. Seriously. I think this one time they threw one because Frankie found a lost sock.
...I wonder where all the lost socks go? Is there a cave somewhere full of them? Maybe a room in the catacombs?
[
He blinks out of his thoughts, looking back at the screen] Sorry, went away for a second there. Anyway, we should throw one, just for the heck of it. I'll even save a dance for every single one of you beautiful ladies out there. YOU know who you are.
Third PERSON: The constant, dreary rain was starting to get on Heath's nerves. He walked through the market, his jacket collar pulled up high to try to keep out the ceaseless dripping water. It didn't do much good against the rain, and his hair was getting steadily more saturated. Jeez, it'd be hours before he could get it to light up again at this rate.
He casually eyeballed a store selling a few 'relics', a laptop, a battery operated fan, even one of those iPhone things the normies were so crazy about. As if reminded of something long forgotten, he reached into his pocket, pulling out his iCoffin, sweeping his fingers across the screen, looking for a message he knew wouldn't be there. All he wanted was a single sign that they'd noticed he was missing, that they were worried about him. But that wasn't the way Exsilium worked and he wasn't entirely sure how much they'd miss him regardless.
Like most of his thoughts, he didn't dwell on this sad contemplation for long. A girl wandered past him, around his age, perhaps a little more. She'd told him her name once and he'd neglected to remember it. No matter, he could wing this anyway. Smiling, and trying to brush some water out of his hair, he jogged towards her to fall into step beside her.
"Hey there, baby. How about you and me get out of this rain and get real cosy by the fire?"
» ADDITIONAL NOTESI'm sorry to inflict him on you all.
